Foster the Future Initiatives and Partnerships
“Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be.”
– Rita F. Pierson

Partnership with the Shelby County Foster Parent Association and UAB Occupational Therapy Program
Trauma-Informed Social Skill Group
From 2018 to early 2020, Foster the Future Alabama implemented monthly trauma-informed social skills groups for children. During these groups, we used life value terms from the Trust Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) teachings to educate the children on how to have healthy relationships. We helped them engage in activities that strengthened their interoception and body awareness skills so that they could identify and begin to understand their emotions.
Continuing Education Training
Foster the Future Alabama also provided Continuing Education training for foster parents through the Shelby County Foster Parent Association. Topics have included: Sensory Processing and Trauma; Surviving the Holidays (Virtual Training during COVID shutdown times)
Adolescent Safety Program
During the 2022-2023 Academic School year, Foster the Future Alabama in partnership with UAB OT program and Pell City Schools provided an Adolescent Safety Program to Pell City Schools. TBRI® informed, sensory, and interoception based social emotional learning groups were expanded on to develop and implement an Adolescent Safety program which was implemented weekly at Williams Intermediate School in Pell City Alabama.
